Latest results
In the fourth match of the season in Bournemouth's King's Park, victory for Ceri Mitchell (Southampton) made sure of the 2011/12 Women's League title, while a fourth successive win for Lucy Elliott secured the Veteran's top position and headed a fourth successive Veteran team's win for Winchester & District. Aldershot, Farnham & District will take the combined women's team trophy as long as they finish in the top six teams at Salisbury. Louise Small won the Under 20 section in her first League appearance this season, but it will be one of four Aldershot colleagues who will take this title.
The junior female races all had close finishes. In the Under 17 Women's race, a four-second winning margin for Charlotte Chalwin (Basingstoke & Mid Hants) ahead of Alex Mundell (City of Salisbury) means that Charlotte has beaten Alex to the League title; Reading AC are now the only team to have completed all four fixtures. In the Under 15 Girls, Hannah Knapton (Winchester & District) won by just three seconds, but the League number 1 spot goes to second-placed Daisy D'Santos (Aldershot, Farnham & District).
Three girls were in contention for the Under 13 title. Basingstoke's Hampshire Champion, Lucy Wildash won this race by a single second, but second place for Dorset Champion, Bridget Dence on her home course means she can't quite be beaten to the League title, leaving Lucy and Wimborne's Grace Copeland to compete for runner's-up place at Salisbury. Aldershot, Farnham & District hold the advantage in both the Girls' team competitions going into the final match.
The position in the Senior and Veteran Men's divisions is less clear cut, as several of the leading contenders have already missed a fixture so absence from the final match will eliminate them from the League competition. Steve Connor won at Bournemouth to take the lead in the rankings, but four of his Aldershot, Farnham & District team mates could take advantage if he slips up at Salisbury. Similarly, Alan Murchison (Winchester & District) leads the Veteran Men's standings after a second victory, but Colin Dixon (Havant) is close behind. City of Portsmouth's Harry Carter won the Under 20 section and is well placed to take the League title if Josh Grace or Harvey Dixon (both AFD) don't perform next month.
The team competition went true to form with Aldershot, Farnham & Distict maintaining their 100% success rate in the Senior and Veteran Team competitions, as indeed they did in the Under 17 Men's and Under 13 Boys' Leagues.
The younger male age categories are more straightforward. Toby Smith (Aldershot, Farnham & District) won the Under 17 Men's race to seal the individual League title. Peter Ellis won the Under 15 Boys' race, and leads club colleague George Butler in the League rankings, though they and their Southampton team could still miss out in the final analysis. Piers Copeland returned to winning ways in the Under 13 Boys' race and has already clinched Wimborne's first ever Hampshire League title.

Popplewell Trophy
Alan Coveney from Winchester and District A.C. was named as the first winner of the Popplewell Trophy at the AGM. The Trophy was to be presented to any official, runner, club member or parent helper who was considered to have contributed to the League in some way. It was named in honour of Maureen and John Popplewell, who had worked tirelessly for 25 years to build the League into its present form. Nominations were open from all affiliated clubs, and the winner decided by the Executive Committee.
Alan was chosen because of his commitment behind the scenes to ensure that Winchester's fixture at Farley Mount is a success. This he has done over countless seasons.
In accepting the Trophy from the Chairman, Ken Littlejohns, Alan commented that it was a team effort, but that he was proud to accept it on behalf of the WADAC team.
