Sportshall Boys just miss out on top spot

The Sportshall Fun in Athletics Regional Final for the South took place at the Mountbatten Centre, Portsmouth on Sunday 20 January.

The Hampshire Under 11 Boys' team finished in second place on 416 points, just three points behind Oxfordshire. Alexander Allen (Team Southampton) scored an individual win in the Standing Long Jump, while there were third placings for his clubmate Corey Cherrett (Speed Bounce), James Elford from City of Portsmouth (Sitting Throw) and Yateley School's Dan Williams (Standing Triple Jump).

In the Girls' competition, where Buckinghamshire were the clear winners, the Hampshire team finished in fourth place. There were no individual winners, but the highest-ranked athletes were Chloe Lammas (City of Portsmouth), Claire Seaman (Team Southampton) and Rachael Duffin (Winchester & District).

In Sportshall, teams from the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands compete separately. In the Boys' match Wight Widgets finished fifth, Guernsey finished sixth and Jersey Spartan seventh, whilst in the Girls' match Jersey Spartan finished third, ten points ahead of Hampshire, Guernsey sixth and Wight Widgets seventh.
